On Friday, we were sent for an ultrasound to be sure the baby was getting the nourishment it needs. This is a normal procedure, since beyond 40 weeks, fluid levels and the baby's environment can begin to deteriorate.

The good news is that I have lots of fluid and am still providing the baby with all of it's needs.

The bad news: This baby is wonderfully healthy and is going to be 10 lbs... give or take 2 lbs.

GIVE OR TAKE 2 POUNDS? Do they not understand that that potentially means a 12 lbs baby???!!!! Who tells a girl that???? Let's just hope they overestimated and I'll have an 8 or 9 pounder.

James and I have been keeping busy these days... waiting for our baby to arrive. Our due date has come and gone (June 16th), so we are patiently waiting to see when this baby will really come.

On Tuesday, we went for our routine doctor's appointment only to find out that we were "having a baby and needed to get to the hospital right away!" Interesting, since I hadn't had a hint of a contraction, but apparently there was some indication that my water had broken. Not knowing any differently, we excitedly grabbed our bags and headed to meet our baby! I was hooked up to the fetal monitor for an hour, only to find out that the results of my water breaking was, in fact, negative. I was not having this baby today.

James has been doing a great job of keeping my occupied while we wait. It's almost as if we are on holiday in our own city. On Wednesday, we went out for a late breakfast, then went to play mini-golf for a few hours. James suffered the humility of losing to his wife by 6 strokes, so we played a second round (a glutton for punishment??!), which he won by 7 strokes. Yep, put an overdue pregnant woman out in the hot sun for a few hours and her game is sure to suffer. It's on again once I can get my arms around my belly!

James' next wonderful idea was to eat some spicy food to "get this labor going!" As a lover of hot wings (and being deprived of them for the past nine months due to my horrendous heartburn), I was quick to agree that it was a good idea.

Turns out that a good idea is not necessarily the best idea. If labor hasn't started, then the old wives' tales are simply myths. Long story short: no labor, but a restless night with heartburn!

My goodness, I'm large.

This post is a little out-of-date (James' pre-shaved beard state), but I wanted to share what my Mother's Day experience was. First, Mother's Day itself was uneventful because, as my husband tells me, I am not a mom yet. Now I don't know what he thinks is growing inside of me, or why we have baby furniture set up in one of the rooms of our house, or why (at the time of writing) I have taken a one-year leave from work, but apparently, I am NOT a mother.

However, the week after Mother's Day, my dad, brother, and James cooked dinner for my mom, Kari and me. James was responsible for the kebabs. In his creative style, he put together a beautiful display... with the pictures to prove it below.

Note - James wasn't the only one to impress. Dad did a great salad and appetizers and Jord made a wonderful dessert. Too bad Mother's Day is only once a year.

In January, James set two goals for himself: lose 50 lbs and grow a beard. So he decided to combine the two goals, challenging himself to not shave until the 50 lbs were lost. I'm not a huge fan of beards, but I was supportive in this goal and hoped he would achieve it. Well, 6 months later my James is still losing weight, but not the 50 lbs he was hoping for. I asked that no matter what, the beard be gone before the baby comes, so we said that June 1st would be "shave day". Me, in my sympathetic manner, said that as "punishment" (I know, I'm terrible), he would have to wear a moustache for a day. Surprisingly, he agreed! I'm just glad he didn't get arrested that day!

The most impressive feat James has accomplished in the past 6 months is actually losing weight (over 20 lbs) while I gained. It can't be easy trying to change your eating habits while your pregnant wife craves Blizzards and the occasional french fry! Once the baby is here, we'll get back on track and keep you posted on our progress.

I'm a pretty lucky girl to have such a wonderful husband. James has been great throughout my entire pregnancy (although really, my pregnancy has gone swimmingly so I haven't put him through much!). We're getting the nursery ready and my James has been so eager to get everything set up for me and baby. I won't go into details about the horror that was putting together our Ikea bookshelves, but let's just say it was a very good thing that most of the furniture came pre-assembled! Below are a few pictures of the nursery in it's very early stages... note the difference in light outside the window!

Thanks baby, for taking care of this so I don't have to worry one second about it!

"Got all of the pieces in order - I'm ready to build!" "This is a big book for so few parts."

All done! Where'd the sun go?!

This is one proud dad!

So it seems that a few people would like to see pictures of James and me from our trip to Mexico. James took me there for a week to celebrate my 30th birthday, as well as to take advantage of one last opportunity for us to spend some time together before the tot arrives. Note how pale and pasty we look... definitely time for a tan!

We had a great time doing just about nothing other eating and relaxing by the pool... just what we both needed. We stayed at Dreams Tulum, which I would highly recommend to anyone going to the Mayan Riviera. Everything about the resort was absolutely wonderful: the food, pools, beaches, food, entertainment, and the food was amazing!

The rest of the pictures are from the last half of our stay, once we were a little more tanned!

So this is pretty darn exciting... a few months ago (my last post), I said we didn't have anything exciting to share. Well things change and time passes and... James and I are expecting in June! It's unbelievable at the moment, especially since I've been lucky enough to not experience any morning sickness. But I heard the heartbeat last week so unless there was something desperately wrong with my diet, then there's a baby in there!

I'll get some pictures posted soon and will now start making regular entries... I need to capture this experience, as I'm sure it will be over before I know it and will all be a distant memory!

In the meantime, please keep us in your prayers as we prepare for our future family!!
